“Pretty much a bowling alley, but for cornhole.”
That’s how management at the Cornhole of America facility in Port Jefferson Station described the indoor beanbag-tossing spot that just opened last month.
Cornhole is traditionally played in backyards, campgrounds and beaches.
But since exploding in popularity over the last few years, taking the game indoors has become a way to extend the season throughout the cooler months, nights, and rainy days.
Not only is cornhole popular, it’s becoming more competitive.
Leagues have been set up at bars across Long Island through promoters like LI Kick and other event spaces, but Cornhole of America co-owner and Port Jefferson Station resident Christopher Micheline says this is the first facility in the area dedicated exclusively to the game.
He and his team saw a demand for the sport in the area, and they like that the barrier to entry for the game is low.
“Anybody can learn to play,” Micheline previously told GreaterPortJeff.
In Port Jeff Station, people can join leagues, take part in a tournament or just play a few games for leisure.
Games cost $10 for the first hour and $5 every additional hour played.
Traditionally played in the grass with a drink in hand, Cornhole of America also sells beer or wine, all for $3 a drink.
And there’s a separate cornhole-tossing room for fundraisers, parties and other events.
There’s also a store. There, shoppers can buy basic or custom boards that sport logos or sayings on them. People could also rent out cornhole games — with delivery.

Cornhole of America is located at 600 North Bicycle Path. The hours are Mondays to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.. On Fridays, the facility is open from 11 a.m. to midnight, and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to midnight. Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
