Retirement community Jefferson’s Ferry has begun its $89 million expansion and renovation project to further enhance their active living experience for aging residents.
The life plan community at One Jefferson Ferry Drive in South Setauket is working on a 165,000 square-foot project called “The Journey Toward Renewal,” which has been in development since the strategic initiative launched in 2018.
Jefferson’s Ferry, a nonprofit life plan community, provides diverse programming and luxury amenities for active adults ages 62 and above.
“We’re building on a promise made by our founders in 2001,” said CEO Bob Caulfield. “We were the first to offer Long Islanders the all-inclusive services of a life plan community — also called a continuing care retirement community — and we’ve been delivering on our promise to help seniors thrive and age successfully ever since.”
The expansion project, which broke ground in December, will add 60 new independent living units to Jefferson’s Ferry’s existing 220 apartments and 28 cottages.
Amenities included in the expansion project include a new marketplace café, bistro-bar, a destination dining room with varying cuisines, and other enhanced services offered to both new and current residents.
Existing dining, activities, and community spaces in the assisted living and the skilled nursing center will be renovated to allow for more space and create a fresh, open-air feel.
The new Healthy Living Center will incorporate a modern, fully-equipped gym and fitness room with access to professional trainers, as well as a state-of-the-art wellness and rehabilitation center.
Residents will continue to have access to preventive care services from experts in audiology, internal medicine, cardiology, dentistry, psychiatry, and several more.
The construction project includes an addition to the existing Vincent Bove Health Center, including an assisted living building specifically designed for residents living with Alzheimer’s dementia and other memory impairing diseases.
“Our community is designed for aging better for longer, whether you live in independent living, assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing,” said Caulfield.
