The New York Mets homegrown starting left-handed pitcher Steven Matz was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays last week.

Matz, 29, a Stony Brook native, played six seasons with the Metropoliations, where he recorded a 31-41 record and a 4.35 ERA.

In December, the Long Islander signed a one-year, $5.2 million deal to stay with the team.

After being sent to Canada in exchange for right-handed pitchers Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diáz and Josh Winckowski, Matz quickly turned to social media where he shared his gratitude for his time playing in New York.

“I’ll always be grateful to the Mets for the opportunity to play for my hometown team,” he wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to Mets fans for all your support throughout my time in NY.”
