The Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce is working with local restaurants to provide free meals to Mather and St. Charles hospital workers during the COVID-19 crisis. is sponsoring an online fundraiser to help those efforts along. Click here to donate. The $16,000 will provide roughly 30 days of meals.

The participating restaurants are: Barito Tacos & Cocktails, Danfords’ Wave Seafood & Steak, Pasta Pasta, Port Bistro & Pub and Slurp Ramen.

Money raised will cover the cost of food, delivery and paying the staffers.

The hospital staffers are on the front lines of the crisis, and these deliveries will serve as a thank you from the community by providing an “extra special meal,” according to the chamber.

The campaign will also help support the restaurants, which have been impacted heavily coronavirus containment measures.

“It’s hard to express in words how grateful we are for the dedication and selflessness of our community’s heathcare workers during this crisis, but we hope this effort is a way of showing our support and care,” said the chamber’s president, Mary Joy Pipe, of East End Shirt Co.
