As the coronavirus continues to spread, local hospitals are running low on medical supplies.
In particular, Stony Brook University Hospital is in need of face shields, N95 3M 1860 masks, protective eyewear, goggles, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer and other supplies required for staff safety.
Over the last week, SBUH has seen a wide influx of people inquiring about donating.
“It’s amazing how people can come together to support one another in a time of crisis,” said Stony Brook University Hospital CEO, Carol Gomes. “We’ve seen many posts from friends and neighbors offering donations to help the staff at Stony Brook University Hospital.”
To donate, the hospital is asking the community to contact its community relations director Joan Dickinson via email Joan.Dickinson@stonybrook.edu or at 631-219-0603. The preferred method of collecting donations is through scheduled appointments.
sending well wishes
While medical supplies are needed, many have reached out to give their emotional support for medical personnel.
The best way to do this, the hospital says, is to send a cell phone video — no longer than 20 seconds long — to Joan.Dickinson@stonybrook.edu.
Also, since patient visitation has been halted during the virus spread, residents at the Long Island State Veterans Home have not seen their families and friends. If you would like to send them well wishes, you can email a short video to Jonathan Spier, LISVH deputy executive director, at jonathan.spier@LISVH.org.
