The Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade that was planned for Sunday has been canceled.

The event organizers, the Friends of St. Patrick, made the announcement today.

“While the Friends of St. Patrick are naturally disappointed to have to make this decision, it is the right decision,” reads a statement from the group. “We know how important the event is to our community and the decision was not made lightly.

“We will be back bigger and better than ever at our next parade and will celebrate twice as much next time.”

Here is a statement issued by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone:

“Out of an abundance of caution as part of the county’s ongoing response to COVID-19, the Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has recommended that parades scheduled for March 14 or March 15 be postponed.”
