Imagine a world where you didn’t have to drive past Riverhead to get your holiday pies.

That was the thoughts behind the team opening Torte Jeff Pie Co., Port Jefferson’s soon-to-be-opened dessert shop that will be dishing out freshly-baked pies.

At Torte Jeff, which is slated to open this month at 218 East Main Street, there is a familiar face behind the counter.

The pie shop will be opened by Lisa Harris, the owner of Port Jeff’s instantly popular restaurant Prohibition Kitchen, and co-owner of the downtown’s hit donut shop, East Main & Main.

It was kind of a spontaneous thing, says Harris, who is also in the midst of opening a Southern-inspired eatery called Fork and Fiddle in the village — scheduled to open later this year.

“I was getting a pie Out East, and I said, ‘I could do this,” Harris told GreaterPortJeff.

Soon she learned the 650-square-foot space on East Main Street was up for lease, and she jumped. It previously held the artisanal marketplace The Shelf.

“If it falls into my lap, it’s just meant to be,” said Harris, a Port Jeff resident. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity; this place is adorable.”

At Torte Jeff there will always be around 10 different pie options to choose from.

There will be classics like apple, peach, mixed berry, and pumpkin. And, if you are familiar with Harris’ eateries, you know there will be some over-the-top options available as well.

“We’re going to get fun and funky with the pies,” she said.

For instance, the shop’s Southern Bourbon Pecan pie, which features whole pecans roasted in bourbon glaze with a bottom crust.

According to Harris, the pies will be baked fresh, daily, and locally. The recipes are a mix between family recipes and spin on traditional recipes, she says.

In addition to the baked dishes, Torte Jeff will also be selling pre-packaged items such as cookies and gift baskets.

Harris wants this to be an alternative to having to trek to the East End for some quality pie.

“Instead of getting stuck in that traffic jam, you can stop here,” said Harris. “Port Jeff is an exciting place to come to in the fall, and all year-round.”

After its launch, Torte Jeff plans to be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Check back at GreaterPortJeff to learn of the opening.
