Stony Brook University students have a new, free way to get to downtown Port Jefferson.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, the college announced it has partnered with the village to provide a continuous shuttle between the two locations.
“This pilot program is designed to let campus members enjoy the dining, shopping and entertainment of Port Jefferson Village without worrying about parking,” reads a statement from Stony Brook.
The program will be administered by the Village of Port Jefferson’s Parking and Mobility Department under the direction of parking administrator Kevin Wood.
SBU will be providing marketing and promotion for the service.
The shuttle program will begin starting on Thursday, March 7.
Along the route, there will be stops at the shopping center with Wild By Nature on Route 25A and the Port Jeff LIRR station. Pick up locations at Stony Brook include the SAC Loop, the Chemistry Loop, and the Chapin Apartments bus stop.
The service will run on Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
