A critically-acclaimed, international author will be visiting Port Jefferson Library for the Fourth Annual Friends of the Library Local Author Fair.

The event, on Saturday, Oct. 13, is featuring keynote speaker Alyson Richman, who has written seven novels — including The Velvet Hours, The Garden of Letters, and The Lost Wife.

Richman, who grew up partly on Long Island and in Japan, has had her books published in 30 countries and 20 languages.

“She herself is an accomplished painter, and her novels combine her deep love of art, historical research, and travel,” said the marketing and outreach librarian, Salvatore Filosa.

The free-to-attend fair, which is open to the public, was created to promote reading while spotlighting local talent.

“Every author has a different story behind each book,” said Filosa. “This showcase gives readers the opportunity to explore those stories and gain a greater appreciation of their work. ”

During the fair, which runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Richman will be discussing her writing process and will be reading from her upcoming novel, The Secret of Clouds.

Her books will also be available for purchase and signings.

To reserve a table, call 631-473-0022. In addition to the fair, the library will be hosting a food drive for its “The Great Give Back” event the same day.
