New York Mets left-handed pitcher and Stony Brook native Steven Matz is scoring even in the offseason.

“Best day of my life,” wrote Matz in a Twitter post, “I got to marry my dream girl.”

The two married in Nauvoo, Ala., on Dec. 9.

And from there, the word has spread quickly of the two tying the knot.

Especially in his hometown, and places like East Setauket’s Se-Port Deli, where there is a sandwich named after him.

“Maybe we’ll do a Mrs. Matz hero for a day to celebrate,” Sam Dakwar, the owner of Se-Port Deli told Newsday.

“Hopefully if they have kids, their children will grow up to be another champion and another hero.”
